Photofacial Therapy at LA Laser and Skin Center
What is photofacial therapy?
Photofacial therapy uses an intense pulsed light laser to target aged and discolored facial skin. Unlike other laser treatments that use a single wavelength of light to treat all skin conditions, this specially engineered laser filters out specific wavelengths from the entire light spectrum to target and destroy damaged skin cells.
Which parts of the body can photofacial treat?
Photofacial therapy treats a variety of skin conditions on the hands, arms, chest, neck, and face.
- Sun Damage
- Acne Scars
- Aged Skin Texture
- Redness and Rosacea
- Broken Capillaries
- Brown Spots
- Age Spots
- Dark Circles
- Broken Capillaries
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Enlarged Pores
Is photofacial therapy right for me?
Photofacial is the perfect noninvasive skin care solution for adult men and women. If you’re committed to proper after care, this procedure is right for you!
What can I expect the day I receive photofacial therapy?
Before treatment begins, you’ll be given a pair of protective eye shields. Your photofacial specialist will apply cold gel to the area being treated. The laser applicator will then begin delivering blasts of light, which will feel like a rubber band snapping against your skin. As the treatment is performed, cold air will be applied directly to your skin to protect the surface and also decrease the heated sensation caused by the light pulses.
What will recovery be like after I receive photofacial therapy?
You may experience mild swelling and a sensation similar to a sunburn for a few hours after your photofacial treatment. Patients are able to go back to work immediately following the procedure. Even though you are able return to regular activities, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your provider. Failure to do so may delay or diminish the results of photofacial treatment. Completely avoid the sun for 48 hours after each photofacial session.
Do I need to follow a special skin care routine after receiving photofacial therapy?
Your provider will give you detailed instructions about your specific skin care needs. You may receive a prescription for special creams or gels to maximum the results of your photofacial treatment.
Be sure to use sunscreen at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun exposure during both the healing phase and for several months after treatment. Apply a moisturizing sunblock with an SPF of at least 30.
When will I see results after photofacial therapy?
Depending on the condition being treated, you may need anywhere from 3-6 treatments for optimal results. Patients typically begin to see improvement after their first photofacial session.
