The Cool Laser has been designed to remove
or noticeably decrease acne scarring or wrinkles.
It improves the overall color and skin texture
of the face, neck and hands. Although one
treatment may suffice, additional treatments
may be necessary to further enhance your results.
Although treatment results will vary depending
on various considerations, you can expect
an improvement in the texture and quality
of the skin.

Cool Laser offers the benefits of less
pain during treatment than traditional techniques,
is usually performed under local anesthesia
and faster healing times.
How does it work?
The water in your skin cells absorbs the laser
light. The absorption in turn causes the instantaneous
vaporization or destruction of the cell. As
our doctors pass the laser light over your
skin, a mere 30 millionths of an inch of tissue
is removed at a time. This incredible control
allows us to treat only as deeply as needed,
from removing acne scars / skin wrinkles to
merely refreshing your overall skin appearance.
After the damaged skin in removed, new skin
quickly regrows in its place.
Does the Cool Laser procedure hurt?
The level of discomfort is different for every person and also varies by
the location and the surface area to be treated. We utilize topical or more
extensive local anesthesia in addition to the zimmer cool air to significantly
reduced any discomfort during the procedure.
How long will the healing process take?
Of course, everyone will heal at various rates depending on the depth of
the treatment, the particular areas treated and your own healing rate. Most
patients can be treated before the weekend and be almost completely healed
by the following Monday. Superficial laser resurfacing may cause the skin
to become raw, red, or pink with mild to moderate discomfort for 1-2 days
following the procedure. (procedures may be perfomed on a Thursday morning
and you can be back at work Monday morning. These may be some redness on
the face at that time that may or may not persist for some time; this can
easily be covered with make-up.) A deep facial resurfacing for deep acne
scars or wrinkles may take upto 1 week before complete healing takes place.
At that time, make-up may be used to cover the residual redness which may
last for a few weeks following the treatment.
How do I take care of my skin immediately after treatment?
Depending on your specific treatment, the doctor will prescribe detailed
skin care instructions. To avoid the risk of infection and to ensure a positive
result, please follow these instructions carefully. After you have healed,
you will need to continually protect your new skin. In the early weeks and
months following treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to sun damage.
If at all possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Please use sunscreens
as recommended by our office.
Special instructions for darker skin patients
All darker-toned patients (Mediterranean,
Hispanic, asian) should be treated with bleaching
cream for two weeks prior to undergoing the
Cool Laser treatment. This minimizes the possibility
of post-inflammatory pigmentation following
the treatment. Additionally, these patients
should take extra precaution to avoid UV exposure
after their laser treatment.
Are there any complications with laser resurfacing?
Although the Cool Laser has substantially
reduced many of the risks associated with
laser procedures, there is always a small
risk of infection, temporary or permanent
pigmentary changes and rarely, scarring. |
